The dial takes its name and texture from the wind-carved snow on the Hotaka mountains, which Grand Seiko's Shinshu studio looks out on through the winter. Instead of white paint, it is finished with a special silver plating that reproduces the fine, crusted surface of the snow. Calibre 9R65 was Grand Seiko's first Spring Drive movement, and its seconds hand sweeps without a tick; the case is shaped to echo that unbroken motion and tapers towards the back, so the 41.0 mm watch wears lighter than its size suggests. High-Intensity Titanium, about 30% lighter than steel, adds to the comfort.
