The Chronomat was introduced in 1984 for Breitling's centenary as a mechanical watch in an era of quartz, building on a chronograph made a year earlier for the Italian Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team. The Chronomat B01 42 is recognisable by the four raised rider tabs on its bezel at the 15-minute marks and by its integrated Rouleaux bracelet, adjustable on both sides of the clasp. It runs on the in-house Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, a COSC-certified chronograph with a date at six o'clock and a 70-hour power reserve, and the case is water resistant to 200 m.
