The world recognises Tommy Hilfiger as a preppy exemplar and vintage designer. Tommy Hilfiger is the Principal Designer and Visionary of all the products under Tommy Hilfiger Group. Fred Gehring is the Chief Executive Officer of Tommy Hilfiger and PVH International Operations which collaborated with Tommy in 2013. The Tommy Hilfiger Group collection comprises of clothes, apparels, accessories, footwear, perfume, home furnishing, eyewear and watches and is universally renowned as a "Fashion Forward" brand.

Tommy Hilfiger Group has about 1500 retail stores in 90 countries with over 17,000 associates globally. Global retail sales of the Tommy Hilfiger Group were US $6.4 billion in the year 2013.

Tommy Hilfiger realised his vigour and passion in designing almost anything with a vintage appeal at a very early age. His creations are widely known for their versatility and the quintessential American class.

Tommy Hilfiger was born in Elmira, New York in an Irish catholic family and he started his career in fashion in 1969 by opening a small chain of stores called People’s Place with just $150 which went  bankrupt when Hilfiger was just 25.  However, he never lost the charisma. His ideas and determination has propelled him from a small scale retail designer to a multi-national highly renowned designer.

In 1985, when he shifted to New York, Hilfiger caught the eye of Mohan Murjani, an Indian businessman who was looking to launch a line of men’s clothing and with him, Hilfiger introduced his first signature collection by modernizing button-down shirts, chinos, and other time-honored classics which caught vivid attention of the trendy youth. He also hired legendary ad man George Lois and with the creation of the famous “hangman ad” the designer upraised his career.

In 1998, he was honoured as the Designer of the Year by Parsons School of Design in New York City.

He has won several FiFi Awards which is the fragrance industry’s most illustrious honor.

He was also widely acknowledged for his philanthropic contributions by the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.).

In 2008, Hilfiger received the coveted Bambi Award for the fashion category.

In 2009, he was presented with the UNESCO Support Award for his philanthropic efforts throughout the years, as well as the Marie Claire Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 1995, Hilfiger launched The Tommy Hilfiger Group to enhance the physical and intellectual well-being of youth with a major emphasis on education and cultural programs that impact a diverse population.
